My new "special project"...
Okay, to 1/2 of you who actually check this, this will mean nothing. Absolutely nothing. To the rest of you, those who know me from WoW or CoH and still keep in touch... listen up :D
I love online social gaming. Getting a group of friends together virtually is something that my parents and grandparents generation will never understand, but we think is important for our kids to learn as well. The only problem is finding the right group.
No matter what game you go to, whether you are looking for a guild/sg or simply a weekly playgroup, you have to sift through the forums, in-game spam, and reccomendations. Sure, if you have a friend in a guild you can join them. But for the majority of people, they don't want that. They want to meet new people, experience new playstyles. They want groups that fit them, not being forced into roles.
Thus my idea was born, and is slowly (very...) coming to fruition. A singular source for players of any game to come together and find eachother; where guilds can list in one simple source exactly what they are looking for, and players can search for only those guilds who match what they are.
No more joining a guild only to find that you are the wrong class or build. No more logging in at 8am only to find your entire guild plays at 8pm. And best of all, no more scouring the forums and noobishly yelling "LOOKING FOR GOOD GUILD PST ME" in game.
Unfortunately it will be a few months until I can unveil the beta of the website, as I am still building the iniatial code... but I will be using this as also my production log, so those who care can keep track of my triumphs and failures.

Sounds neat. Although my gaming extent was a few times trying Everquest back in college when Jacob was into it. Good luck getting it going. Jacob is working on this cool program right now, he's part owner of this company his uncles started and they have had test market meetings with people like microsoft and norton, love to fill you in, but I can't! He did/does the programming and his uncles came up with the concept. It's really cool how much you can do with computers!
Sounds kind of like E-Harmony for gamers. :) I think you might be on to something, Abe.
exactly sig! I really do think that others will feel that way. Crossing my fingers...
Lisa - sound sawesome. That's how my POS Software went - I built it in C from scratch for a local store for the fun of it, ended up selling it to a company where my core is still standard on their systems. Paid off a few debts and took us to disney :)
I just happened upon your blog today (procrastinating :) and love the idea! Look forward to the updates.
Make sure you put in a feature so that guilds can say up front whether or not they accept women and/or black people and/or gay people. Then decent human beings would not waste their time applying and would know who the assholes are right away.
Don't I wish erica... don't i wish. unfortunately that would turn away potential users. BUT there is going to be a "review the guild" feature. More work for me, but by not allowing people to type things in (just using a drop-down box) you can get an idea about the guild before joining.
