I made a huge mistake....
I showed my wife how to play City of Heroes. And then she played it for a couple of hours, and didn't want to share.
On one hand, I am glad that my wife enjoys video games, and is slightly a geek like I am. it makes it easier to play Heroclix, and Vs, and City of Heroes. But on the other hand... I just got City of Villians too, and I want to play...
We may have to get a second computer just for that. We have been looking at Laptops anyway.
at any rate, why do schools have to shut down for President's day? I mean, it is not like the teachers need a break. (hell, here in eau claire they had last wendesday off for "inservice"). Now they get today off too?
That means I have to have Bug at home with me today, while I am trying to work. Not usually too bad (I have time to do this after all). But for some reason she is being needy today. I'm probably going to have to work late tonight... which means my wife will get to play CoH and I won't :(
In other news, we are buying our airline tickets on friday! Yeah! We are going to fly Sun Country this time, non-stop out of Minneapolis, and we get served breakfast on the flight. For only $230 per person, after tax. Not bad at all.

Wow, that's an awesome price for tickets! We just ordered ours to Denver and for $250 a piece we get to change flights twice (with Ella) and probably won't get anything more than some stale peanuts! I guess changing flights will be easier than driving to Milwaukee, though. Flying right out of Appleton is nice - we're hoping Ella just does better on the plane then taking a long car ride!
PS - Teachers totally deserve time off. Inservice is miserable unless you have an incredibly awesome district. Seriously, all teachers have to be there all day and usually the inservice program involves a boring speaker for at least 1/2 of the day! The other 1/2 you get to submit grades or whatever else.
Let me tell you something about "inservice" and "Presidents Day." Teachers need a break. Unfortunately, the university doesn't feel the need to have a holiday...but I do.
I have 4 sets of papers to grade right now: quizzes, documentation exercises, essays, and peer review sheets.
3 of those 4 things were collected in class today. 3 of those 4 things need to be given back to my students by Wednesday. This is pretty normal. And I'm only teaching one class.
Last night I spent 2.5 hours grading summary reviews (22 papers, aprox. 2 pages each). That's how long it takes to get through a set of papers. Quizzes, peer reviews and exercises...OK, one hour each for those. But still. It's not a small time investment. And the essays are each 3-5 pages long, times 22 students...go figure.
My 2 hours of office time per week do not allow me nearly enough time to do my stuff -- especially because students stop by to ask questions, drop stuff off, etc. Not that I'm complaining -- that's what my office hours are for, technically...not for grading.
So if i had a holiday today, what would I be doing? Grading papers, and then watching some TV. "CSI" and "Skating With Celebrities," perhaps. But since it's not a holiday and therefore I spent much of my day at school, what will I be doing? Grading papers.
Sorry. I don't mean to yell at you. I understand that holidays disrupt your life, and that sucks. Big time. I'm just a little irritated right now because I don't get paid nearly enough to abandon my life and my own classes to grade some crappy freshmen bullshit.
And because I slacked this weekend and am now paying for it. Big time.
Just build another desktop...it's cheaper and better for gaming than a laptop.
P.S. Play WoW, it is vastly superior to CoH. And get your wife her own account.
